31 Day Challenge Day 16: Tribal Print

So, here's the thing about today: I love the look of this nail style, and kind of hate myself for it. I have major ethical concerns about the cultural appropriation, not to mention - "tribal"? What does that even mean? What tribe? Anything "ethnic" and Other gets lumped together. For a humorous perspective that addresses some of these issues better than I ever could, check out this video:

That said... I loved the look of these. So did everyone else; SO many compliments! Looks really cool, but I don't know if I can do it again without the excuse of the challenge. For some pointers on how to approach the pattern and a bit more help than just the pictures you frequently see around the internet, check out this tutorial.

Lots of pictures! On a base of Illamasqua Jo'mina, I painted random bits with OPI Fly and China Glaze Laced Up, filled in some bits with Konad Special White, and then some precise work with black acrylic paint. I freehanded everything sort of randomly, using other "tribal nail art" images as inspiration for patterns.
Then some indoor, artificial light, pictures:

And I might be a bad person...

  1. Looks great! I think its a way to celebrate a unique culture not a negative. :)

  2. tribal prints are so fun
